For over 65 years, UWCNY has been promoting the education of young women through awards and scholarships. Our Scholarship Fund is a registered charitable foundation.
Current members include:
• Scholarship Fund Chair – Carole Brown
• Scholarship Fund Treasurer – Ellen Baker
• Scholarship Fund Secretary – Joanne Reilly
Other trustees include the Education Convenor and Vice-President of UWCNY. The Treasurer and President of UWCNY are non-voting ex-officio members.
Club members also contribute to the CFUW scholarship projects. UWCNY members donate to the Ecole Polytechnique Commemorative Awards administered by CFUW’s Charitable Trust. These awards were created in response to the events of December 6th, 1989 and are a memorial to the fourteen women engineers and students killed that day. $5.50 of our annual membership fee goes to the UWCNY Scholarship Fund. We also raise money with extra member donations, our annual book sale, and In Memoriam donations.
If you wish to make a donation, please email our Scholarship Fund Treasurer firstname.lastname@example.org
In 2019, we formalized our donor agreement with York University and have pledged to continue funding nine awards with an annual worth of $8,500 over the next ten years. We also provide three scholarships worth $1,000 apiece to women studying at Seneca College. In addition, young women graduating from five North York area high schools receive scholarships of $1,000 each year. This allows them to pursue their education in the arts and STEM fields. Students attending Earl Haig S.S., Claude Watson School for the Arts, Downsview S.S., C.W. Jefferys C.I., and Madonna Catholic Secondary School are eligible for these awards.
