The UWC North York envisions a world where all women and girls are safe, have equal opportunities, and are empowered to reach their full potential. Together, through informed advocacy and collective action, UWC North York works to advance the status of women and girls and build a more equitable society.
What Is Advocacy?
Advocacy is the act of influencing decisions within political, economic, and social systems to create positive change. It is a vital part of democracy, ensuring that diverse voices are heard and that issues affecting individuals and communities are brought to the attention of decision-makers.
Why Do We Advocate?
We advocate to:
- Promote gender equality
- Raise awareness of issues affecting the rights of women and girls
- Support policies and actions that protect and advance those rights
- Increase access to education for women and girls
- Create positive change that improves the lives of women and girls locally, nationally, and globally
How Do We Advocate?
Advocacy is at the heart of UWC North York’s activities. We work to make a difference by:
- Influencing Public Policy
Using CFUW and UWC North York policies and resolutions to advocate for change at municipal, provincial, and federal levels of government. - Collaborating with Community Organizations
Building partnerships with like-minded organizations to strengthen our collective impact. - Supporting Education
Provide scholarships that help women and girls pursue university and college education, locally, federally and internationally. - Developing and Promoting Resolutions
Researching, submitting, reviewing, amending, and voting on resolutions that may become CFUW policy. Approved policies guide future advocacy and action. - Addressing Emerging Issues
Monitoring and assessing new and evolving issues that affect women and girls and determining where advocacy efforts are needed.
