Universal Pharmacare

“It is time to finish writing the final chapter in Medicare’s story.”

We need your help.

Right now, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health is writing their report to Parliament on Pharmacare. What they say will define the debate and shape how our Federal Government addresses Pharmacare.

Canada’s provincial and territorial health ministers announced in October that they have federal support to explore the feasibility of a national universal Pharmacare program for prescription drugs.

Please write to your elected officials at both the provincial and federal levels to tell them you support the implementation of a single national universal drug plan which would cover medically necessary prescription drugs for all Canadians, regardless of their ability to pay.

Research shows that it only takes 10 constituents contacting their elected official to cause them to act.

With both the federal and Ontario elections coming up, the time is right!

To find out your riding, go to http://www.redecoupage-federal-redistribution.ca/map/pwt/pwt.html and enter your address in the top right corner.

This site will provide both federal and Ontario riding information. Note that riding boundaries have changed since the last Ontario election. If you are in a riding whose boundaries have changed, you need to use the 2013 riding information for the Federal MP and the 2003 riding information for Ontario MPP.  (Caution: With the up-coming Ontario election, most of the sites now provide you with the new Ontario ridings. You want the existing riding information in order to write now.)

Once you have your riding name, Google the name of your riding with MP or MPP to find out the name and address of your MP or MPP.

Violence against Women

NATIONAL INITIATIVE ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

A University Women’s Club North York Proposal

CFUW 16 Days, 16 Actions: from November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEDAW), to December 10, International Human Rights Day we are suggesting 225 (our membership numbers) actions.

Just one phone call is all we ask.

On November 14th Employment and Social Development Minister Patty Hajdu tabled Bill C65 in Parliament. The bill addresses Federal Workplace Harassment.

We know that our news is overrun with more and more revelations of sexual harassment and sexual violence by those in power over women. This is a critical first step in addressing this concern from federal workplaces to local bank branches. It is a beginning to address the full range of unacceptable behaviours from bullying to sexual violence.

We ask you to call your own MP and ask him or her to support this bill. We owe this to ourselves, our daughters and our granddaughters.

We thank you.
