A popular return speaker, Dr. Adam Chapnick, professor of defence studies at the Royal Military College, gave a vigorous endorsement of immigration to Canada and what he sees as a positive impact on multiculturalism.
The crux of his talk was that “Unlike some other countries immigration is not a choice but an economic necessity” because of demographic trends. He was upbeat about Canada’s integration of immigrants since Canada has a long history of recognition of individual rights.
The chief future challenge is “diaspora politics,” he cautioned. “Immigrants… must accept that Canada’s national interest is paramount.”
